The Story of the Destined - The End of Legends: Oliver's Promise
An extended chapter by Oliver Wyatt-Burton

This chapter takes place between Chapter 15 and the Epilogue of The End of Legends, I felt that it'd be good just before the end of it all, to have a moment shared between the first two characters introduced, Oliver and Harvey to make things full circle.

-

Oliver fell through the warphole, saddened that his world no longer existed, and now it never had. He didn't dare open his eyes, the sky he saw before he left Jewel was all he had left to cling to. But then something unexpected happened, he felt something on his forearm, floating alongside him. He dared to open his eyes, his brother Harvey was right there with him!

"Harvey?" Oliver asked in disbelief, looking at his brother's face against the bright white void they were in, floating calmly and aimlessly along. Harvey smiled and nodded.
"Ollie please, don't be sad" requested Harvey, looking hopefully at him. Oliver took the time to notice that Harvey had his forearms wrapped around him in an embrace, their bodies mere inches from each other.

"Harvey, how could you be here? You don't exist any more" said Oliver, to which Harvey closed his eyes and rested his head on his brother's chest.
"That's what I was afraid of, what everyone was afraid of. Our world has ended Ollie and there's no chance of it ever returning, only you will live beyond the final day, to see the new world better than ours ever could be" said Harvey calmly, hugging him tighter. They continued drifting on, Oliver raised his right forepaw and stroked Harvey's crest, it was as real as he could have imagined, Oliver felt tears welling up in his eyes.
"Everything was perfect, we were in peace, everyone was happy, we had Obsidian and friends all across the world, I'll never see Genesis, Obsidian, Entity or even Timer again, ever" said Oliver sadly, to which Harvey looked up to Oliver with the same sadness.

"Oliver, please, even if you do see us again in the new world, don't ever forget us and the time we've had, I know it's a burden to bear, but" Harvey paused, tears welling up in his eyes.
"I don't care if I'm gone, the future is brighter now and you'll be fine. Save your tears Ollie, you won't be needing them" said Harvey, lifting a paw to carefully wipe away Oliver's tears, allowing his own to fall.
"I know the Harvey I'll see will never be you, and I won't love him any less than I love you. I promise I'll never forget any of you, you'll always be immortal, preserved in my heart. All of you, every last one, even those that I hated. I'll speak of our story too, I'll travel the new world and tell the story that we know so well" promised Oliver, hugging his brother closer, to which Harvey smiled, closed his eyes and rested his head back on Oliver's chest.

"I remember so very long ago you took me to the beach, the day we met Revilo, Emily and Amber. Seems like life times ago now, but I want you to know even though I doubted you and fought Revilo, even when you were Genesis or that you lead us all into war, I don't regret any of it, I've lived a good and full life, and I can only imagine what adventures you'll go on to have! But you made it possible for me to meet our parents when we knew them to be dead. I wouldn't trade it for anything, thank you for being my brother. I love you" said Harvey, and then before his eyes, Harvey dispersed into light, floating away from Oliver. He heaved a sigh of sadness but promised not to cry. It wasn't easy seeing his brother who had been there all along finally leave for the last time.
"Don't worry buddy, I'll never forget, I promise" whispered Oliver, closing his eyes and smiling, then falling gently from the light into darkness.
Whaaat?! A chapter for The Story of the Destined? Yeah, basically I was playing Final Fantasy XIII-2 and I was finally able to finish the Lightning DLC, Requiem of the Goddess, so I got to see the ending and I felt the last moments between Lightning and Serah, who are sisters was so touching and beautiful, and then I thought about it, there could be a little homage to that in the final moments of The Story of the Destined, so I went ahead and wrote it :) Enjoy a little extension to the already heart-wrenching The Story of the Destined.

It's been a few years since I finished The Story of the Destined, but it is a pleasant suprise to see that Oliver (and you could argue Harvey too) recieved a modicum of closure before the world as he knew was gone. If anyone could've had the chance to give Oliver the last goodbye, I think it's best that the person there with him from the beginning had the opportunity. Good job on this extension, Ollie. Highly descriptive and emotional, as was the rest of TSotD.
